The application process

Would you like to become part of the Fraunhofer IEM? Have you found one or more suitable positions? Then apply now. We will be happy to support you and help you with the application process. We have summarized all the necessary information for you in this overview. You can also find answers to frequently asked questions in the FAQ.

Do you have any further questions? Then feel free to get in touch with our experts for jobs & careers.

  • You can apply for any position online. To do so, please register on our job portal and create a profile. You then have the option of uploading your application documents. In our job advertisements, you can do this easily by clicking on the "Apply now" button.

The minimum we want to see from you is your CV. Of course, we will get a better impression of you and your qualifications if you send us your complete application.

As soon as we have received your application, you will receive an automatic confirmation of receipt by e-mail.

  • Our HR department and the relevant specialist department will check whether your professional qualifications match the requirements of the position. As the examination of your application depends on several factors, we are unfortunately unable to give you a general time frame. We will of course try to give you feedback as quickly as possible and make decisions promptly.
You can find out about the current status of your application at any time. Please get in touch with the contact person named in the job advertisement.

  • If you are a suitable candidate for the position, we would like to get to know you better and invite you to at least one personal interview.
These appointments take place online or at our institute. The specialist department and the respective manager would like to find out more about you, your personality, skills and qualifications in these interviews. And we also look forward to your questions. After all, we want you to find out more about us, our institute and our work.

  • After the interview, we will inform you of our decision as soon as possible. We or the HR department will then explain to you in detail the next steps up to the final employment contract.

  • Our onboarding helps you to settle in with us and in your new position. Right at the start, you will discuss tasks, goals and training measures with your manager, for example. Your group leader will also be at your side, familiarize you with the customs at the institute and take care of your structured induction. Your colleagues from the department and administration are also an important point of contact. You will get a good overview and all the important information at our "Check In" introductory event, which you will attend together with other new employees shortly after you join us. This will give you everything you need to get off to a good start.

FAQ about the application

  • A good application consists of a cover letter, CV, current (work) references and (if available) work samples and publications. Everything together should give us an impression of your professional and personal qualities.

    Cover letter

How did you hear about the position? What motivates you to apply? Why do you want to work in this field? What relevant qualifications do you have? And what is your earliest possible starting date? Give us answers to the most important questions in your cover letter on a maximum of one page.

    Curriculum vitae

A clear, well-structured CV gives us a quick overview of your most important stages. This includes training, studies, professional experience including relevant internships, stays abroad, special skills, foreign languages, etc. You should also include your personal interests.

    Certificates

Include evidence that is relevant to the position you are applying for, such as proof of studies and training as well as references from previous employers.

    Work samples and publications

Are you applying for an academic position and have already published? Then we would also be pleased to receive a list of your previous publications.

  • At least one contact person is named in the job advertisements. Please address your application to the person named.

  • Please contact the person named in the job advertisement. Our contact persons in the HR department will of course also be happy to help you.

  • Your letter of application has convinced us! Now we would like to get to know you and find out more about you. Use the (virtual) interview to introduce yourself. But also to get an idea of our institute and your job.

    • Show us that you are professionally and personally suitable for "your" position! Impress us with your qualifications and your knowledge of technologies and trends.
    • Prepare yourself for questions! Why are you applying? What is your CV about?
    • You are also welcome to prepare questions for us.
    • Be punctual and suitably dressed! Find out in advance about how to get there and the local conditions.
    • Excitement is part of it! Nevertheless, speak calmly, clearly and concisely and emphasize why we should hire you of all people.
  • You can withdraw your application at any time and delete your profile in the job portal. If you do not delete your profile, we will keep your data in our database for a maximum of six months after the recruitment process has been completed. We will then anonymize your data at the latest. We will then only use it for statistical evaluations.
