Implementation of a digital factory twin architecture

Welcome to the Fraunhofer Institute for Mechatronic Design IEM!
At the »Zukunftsmeile« in Paderborn, Germany, we conduct practical research to develop innovative solutions for mechanical and plant engineering, the automotive industry and related sectors. The focus is on intelligent products, production systems, services and software applications.

What you do with us

  • You develop a digital factory twin in the IEM tool world for digital engineering: Aras (PLM), SAP (ERP), MS Azure Digital Twins (Digital Twin-Tool and Asset Administration Shell), material flow simulation (Plant Simulation), Node-Red (OT-Tool), Scan-Tool (e.g. via IPad), 3DX platform (CAD)
  • Independent research and familiarization with the tool world with the help of technical documentation
  • Creation and linking of data objects in the tool world: 
    • Factory: scan of an example factory, CAD model of the factory (in Aras), bill of resources (SAP), material flow (Plant Simulation), structural model of the factory (Plant Simulation, MS Azure Digital Twins), machine data (Node-Red), KPI model of the factory  
    • Product: E-BOM bicycle (processed in Aras), CAD model bicycle (processed in Aras), M-BOM bicycle (SAP), Bill of Processes bicycle (SAP)

What you bring with you

  • Degree in computer science, business informatics or comparable courses of study
  • Advanced programming skills in the Python programming language
  • Advanced user knowledge in at least one of the tools mentioned
  • Confident written and spoken English skills
  • Analytical mindset and strategic way of working
